How to choose billing software for a pathology lab

PulseOne team · 31 October 2026 · 4 min read

Billing is where your lab's money comes in, so the software you choose matters. Use this checklist when you compare options, including Pulse1.

1. Pricing that fits your volume

Check whether you pay a fixed fee or per bill, whether GST is included, and what happens when your volume grows. A small lab shouldn't pay for capacity it doesn't use.

2. Tests, packages and discounts

You should be able to set your own rates, bundle tests into health packages and apply discounts at the counter.

3. Dues, part payments and refunds

Patients often pay part now and the rest later. Good software tracks paid, due and partial bills, lets you collect dues in one click and records refunds.

4. Printing that suits your counter

Check for both normal (A4) and thermal bill printing, and a QR code on the bill.

5. Connected to reports

Billing should flow into sample tracking and the final report, with reports sent on WhatsApp, SMS or email.

6. Control and accounting

Look for staff permissions (who can cancel or refund), activity tracking, and a daily summary of income and dues.

7. Support and setup

Ask whether the vendor will set up your test list, rates and report format, and how you reach support.

How Pulse1 fits

Pulse1 covers this list, with a Free plan, ₹10 per bill (GST included), ₹1,499 a month (GST included) or ₹12,000 + GST a year. See Pulse1 billing.
